Neck and back pain treatment in Fort Lauderdale

PRP Therapy

At Orthopedix MD, Dr. Gayan Poovendran offers PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy for our patients. The body’s first response to any soft tissue injury (ligaments and tendons) is to deliver platelet cells. Filled with healing and growth factors, platelets jump starts the repair process and attract the essential aid of stem cells. PRP therapy’s (Platelet-Rich Plasma) natural healing process accelerates the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets through a simple injection. It provides effective pain relief and faster healing, and it can eliminate the need for surgery and prolonged recovery.

What is PRP Therapy?

PRP Therapy is a revolutionary orthopedic procedure that uses components of the body’s own blood cells to relieve pain and promote long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions. Stem Cell therapy, promotes the regeneration of new, healthy tissue. In other words, regenerative medicine includes the use of stem cell and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to treat patients of all ages and activity levels without surgery.

Platelet-Rich Therapy(PRP) uses your body’s own blood cells and bone marrow, which contains a higher concentration of platelets delivered specifically to the source of pain or injury. Platelets are created by bone marrow and found in the bloodstream. Increased levels of growth factors have the potential to improve signaling and recruitment of cells. Platelets aid stem cells to promote healing and can be considered a "booster shot".

The Procedure:

PRP injections are done in our office, which will take about 35 minutes. Blood is drawn from the arm, and then placed into a centrifuge, which separated the platelets and other beneficial growth factors. The PRP is then injected into the desired site.

The Benefits:

PRP Therapy aids in the healing process and helps decrease pain and inflammation, for conditions such as, chronic pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, as well as rotator cuff tears, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, ACL tears, tennis elbow, and strains and sprains.

Follow-up:

It is recommended by Dr. Poovendran to follow-up with a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy) injection. The treatment plan will depend on your individual condition, but generally, one stem cell injection is administered initially and an injection of PRP is given after four to six weeks.
